Camp Clark-Frieson attends Bowen-East District Usher Program

When we arrived at Pilgrim Baptist Church on Saturday around noon, June 2, it was "standing-room-only" in the parking lot at Pilgrim Baptist Church.

The Bowen-East District Usher Program was already underway. This program was a special effort among 18 Baptist Churchs in the Bowen East District.

When we entered the Sanctuary, it was a sea of white, attended by those who serve in the Usher Ministry of their respective churches throughout this distict.  They were all dressed out in their white usher uniforms and white usher gloves, just like on Sunday Morning Worship Service.

Just about to take the roster to deliver the message for the day was Dr. Melvin Owens, Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, LaFayette, Alabama.

Dr. Owens delivered a soul-stirring message about "Worship."
After this very moving message, the congregation enjoyed music by the Pilgrim Baptist Church choir.

The ushers from the various churches throughout the district were rewarded by their President, Mary Baily Mitchell, for the church having the largest number of ushers in attendance, the group having the largest and second-largest registering, the oldest actively serving usher; and the youngest actively serving.

The program concluded with Political Concerns.  Addressing the group during this session was Dr. Randy B. Kelly, Pastor of Goodsell United Methodist Church, who also works with the Alabama Democratic Conference and the National Democratic Committee. Charlotte Clark-Frieson, candidate for House District 37, Alabama House Of Representatives, and George Fanning candidate for State Democratic Executive Committee Member, both spoke about their candidacies.  Mrs. Maudie Taylor spoke about Alabama New South Coalition, and Mrs. Katie Walton, chairman of the Chambers County Democratic Executive Committee, spoke about voting rules and regulations.

Camp Clark-Frieson participates in "Summer On Main" in Roanoke

Saturday June 2 started out as an overcast day, and stormy.  We didn't know what the weather was going to do, but, despite threatening weather, we boogied on downtown Roanoke, and pitched our tent, to get ready for the "10th Annual Summer On Main," event sponsored by the Randolph County Chamber Of Commerce.

The event was well attended with a variety of vendors participating.   There were a number of local businesses, candidates for public office, out-of-town vendors, the Handley High School Band teacher, The Randolph County "Blues' (Democrats); They were everywhere, from the old IGA/Super-Value Parking Lot, to "The Green" from Main Street to "Back Street."

There were games for the children; food vendors serving up great fixins for the hungry; some kind of activity for every age and stage.

The Clark-Frieson campaign was on hand to pass out free bottled water, campaign buttons, tee-shirts, and other campaign materials, and chit-chat with passers-by.
